Migrants are required to notify the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs when starting work in Russia

Foreign citizens who have obtained a patent since January 7, 2024, are required to submit a notification to the territorial office of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) regarding their employment within two months from the date of its issuance. The procedure can be completed through the "Gosuslugi" portal.

Within two months from the date of patent issuance, a foreign citizen must personally submit, send by mail with a delivery notification, or send as an electronic document through the unified portal of state and municipal services to the territorial office of the federal executive authority in the field of internal affairs that issued the patent, a notification of the commencement of work," the document states.

According to the law, foreigners must attach a copy of the labor or civil law contract to the notification. If the contract is concluded orally, the notification must provide information about the civil law contract for the performance of work or the provision of services. Failure to fulfill this obligation may result in the annulment of the patent issued to the foreigner, according to TASS.

Before the implementation of this law, foreigners did not have temporary restrictions on engaging in employment activities after obtaining a patent. Additionally, they could legally pay for the patent and stay in the territory of the Russian Federation.

The notification form that all foreigners must fill out has been approved by the order of the MVD of Russia and also comes into effect on January 7.
