The Russian Ministry of Education and Science has proposed reducing the exam fees for migrants

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation proposes to establish a uniform fee for exams in Russian language, Russian history, and the fundamentals of legislation for migrants. The corresponding draft resolution of the Russian Government has been published on the official portal for draft regulatory legal acts.

The document states that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation plans to set a uniform fee for the examination in the Russian language as a foreign language, Russian history, and the fundamentals of Russian legislation for the purpose of obtaining a temporary residence permit or a residence permit, a work permit, or a patent, as specified in Article 13.3 of the federal law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation," in the amount of 1,000 rubles, according to TASS.

According to current regulations, a migrant must pay 5,900 rubles for the exam to obtain a temporary residence permit or a residence permit and 3,800 rubles for a work permit or patent.

It is anticipated that these changes will come into effect on September 1, 2024, and will be valid until August 1, 2027.

As a reminder, earlier, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation proposed temporarily waiving the requirement for migrants entering Russia for work to take the history exam when applying for a residence permit. In addition, foreigners were suggested to be exempted from the written part of the exam in the Russian language as a foreign language and the basics of Russian legislation.
