The Russian government plans to tighten control over migrants

The Russian government plans to tighten control over foreign citizens. After the terrorist attack at the "Crocus City Hall," the Russian Foreign Ministry may expedite efforts to tighten control over the flow of migrants.

"The migration issue is being systematically addressed within the government structures. This includes organizing the process and improving control over compliance with the country's migration legislation. Most likely, the tragedy at 'Crocus' will influence the strengthening of these conditions to accelerate work in this direction," - quotes a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry by RIA Novosti.

Shooting and fire occurred in the evening on March 22 at the "Crocus City Hall" in Krasnogorsk near Moscow. According to the latest data from the Russian Investigative Committee, 137 people died. According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, 152 people were injured in the terrorist attack. March 24 was declared a day of national mourning. The Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested four individuals accused of committing the terrorist attack. All of them are citizens of Tajikistan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia faced not just a carefully planned terrorist attack, but organized mass murder of civilians. The head of state emphasized that "we will identify and punish everyone who stands behind the terrorists."

Earlier, a proposal was submitted to the State Duma of Russia to restrict the entry of migrants into Russian territory during a special military operation. Deputy of the State Duma Mikhail Sheremet made this initiative. He proposed temporarily closing the borders to migrants to ensure the country's internal security. Mikhail Sheremet noted that foreign citizens crossing the border could become a target for Western intelligence services, which are used to carry out terrorist acts and destabilize the situation in Russia. He emphasized that while he respects residents of other countries who come to Russia with good intentions, some of them may be unlawfully used to harm the Russian people.
